About Us

In 1976, the Ministry of National Education decided to open State Engineering and Architecture Academies across the country. With this decision, Edirne State Engineering-Architecture Academy, which formed the basis of Trakya University and Engineering Faculty, started education on February 21, 1977 in the building of Edirne Commercial High School.

Prof. Dr. Selahattin ÇAKAL was the founding president of the Edirne State Academy of Engineering and Architecture. In 1982, in accordance with the provisional article 28 of the Law No. 2547, based on the authority given by the Law No. 2680 on the reorganization of the Organization of Higher Education Institutions, in accordance with the 19th article of the Decree Law No. 41 adopted by the Council of Ministers, the name of Edirne State Engineering-Architecture Academy was changed as the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and then it was affiliated to Trakya University.

On 03.12.1982, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture moved to its place in Ayşekadin campus, which was accepted as the Central campus of Trakya University. In 2006, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture moved to his new building in the Prof. Dr. Ahmet T. KARADENİZ campus which was located next to the Edirne Bus Terminal.

As of 2013, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was divided into Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Architecture. While the Faculty of Architecture continues its education in the historical building in the Macedonian campus since the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year, the Faculty of Engineering continues its education and research activities in the Ahmet T. KARADENİZ campus.

Development of Academic Organization

Mechanical Engineering and Architecture Departments were the first departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, which was established on 03.12.1982 with the law No. 2809. Then, Department of Computer Engineering, Department of Food Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Department of Genetics and Bioengineering was established in 1991, in 2008, in 2010 and in 2014, respectively.
